Returning to Charlotte in January 2006, Jason performed the role of Alfredo in Opera Carolina’s production of La Traviata. Previous Opera Carolina performances include the North Carolina premiere of Cold Sassy Tree, Remendado in Carmen, Malcolm in Macbeth, Normano in Lucia di Lammermoor and 2nd Priest/1st Armored Guard in The Magic Flute.

In the summer of 2005, critics raved about his Tom Rakewell in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress for the prestigious Merola Program at San Francisco Opera. His performance was described as, “balanced ardency and lovable stupidity with perfect assurance. His tone is vibrant and bright . . . and Karn delivered the role's stirring high notes with aplomb.” (Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle.)

He served as an apprentice with the 2004 Chautauqua Opera Festival, where he performed in Susannah, Fiddler on the Roof, and Verdi’s Stiffelio. Jason was also a featured soloist in two concerts with the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra and was honored with an Encouragement Award.

Jason has also performed Tamino in The Magic Flute for Granite State Opera, Natchez Opera, and was featured as Lt. Cable in Opera Boston's South Pacific. He was selected as a Young Artist with Opera North in 2001 and as a Vocal Fellow with the Tanglewood Music Festival in 1999.

Jason holds a BM in voice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a MM in voice from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
